A scene from ‘ The Jungle Book’

I came across a competition to illustrate a scene from ‘The Jungle book’ by Art of the Imagination through a group on LinkedIn. Below is what I have come up with.

I took a favourite quote of mine from the story as inspiration-

“A black shadow dropped down into the circle. It was Bagheera the Black Panther, inky black all over, but with the panther markings showing up in certain lights like the pattern of watered silk.”

Personally, I think there is something lacking here and I think it’s detail. I tried to capture bagheera joining the circle with the wolves as mentioned in the quote, but maybe the wolves need a little more detail I think. I did this on an a5 scale and have this image scanned in so I may go back and add a little detail as there are still 10 days until the competition deadline.

I really enjoyed using colour and composition. I wanted to create a dusk scene in the jungle and show it’s vastness. I enjoyed painting the tops of trees poking out from the clouds below. Hopefully I can add more detail to this and re post nearer the deadline!
