Visiting my old primary school, Tower Road Academy
I was so excited recently to be invited to my old primary school, Tower Road Academy for an author day with Reception and Key Stage One!
We had a very busy day that started out with an assembly where I introduced myself, why I was there and where I’d come from. It was very surreal to be stood in the sports hall where I was sat 20 years ago!
After that I spent the rest of the day in the school’s library / reading center, meeting each class from Key Stage One. After listening to me read my book ‘Nipper and the Lunchbox’ we would have a Q & A session where the children got to ask me questions about writing and storytelling. After this they got to pick one of the activity sheets I created with Child’s Play to complete and they drew their own Nippers which would then be put on display in the reading center.
I ended the day by selling and signing books at the school’s entrance which was a huge success as I actually sold out of books! It was lovely meeting so many pupils and seeing how excited they were to learn that I used to be a Tower Road pupil too, and great to catch up with a couple of old teachers!
