Feedback, my project proposals and progress so far

It’s been a long week of reading for me! I posted a thread on Reddit asking for advice

http://www.reddit.com/r/AskLiteraryStudies/comments/1a7nqa/help_on_an_interesting_story_to_illustrate/

on what would be a good story to illustrate. I spent time reading through these stories and after much debating went with ‘The Yellow Wallpaper’ which I mentioned previously, purely because I have background knowledge of the story.  This is an idea I presented at my tutorial and one we decided that I should pursue over Easter.

The second project I will pursue will be on the subject of my hometown of Boston. The town has recently been on the national news with problems of immigration and conflicting attitudes. The town has undergone major changes over the past 50 years which is something I thought could be quite visually interesting to look at, not only for the visual side of things but for me personally. Downsides of this project would be if I had to return after Easter to collect more imagery and such but this shouldn’t be too much of a problem.

TO DO / LOOK AT

The Yellow Wallpaper

  • Rotting/ decaying paper
  • Wallpapers of the time
  • Stately Homes
  • History
  • Patterns
  • Raw Magazine
  • Outsider art
  • Abandoned places/lived in places
  • Mental Illness, look deeper into this

Boston

  • Local Newspapers
  • Archive and library
  • Shop Keepers
  • Shop Fronts
  • Market
  • History
  • Different attitudes
  • Sit and Draw People

Of course these are only a few rough starting points of what to look at. Both are very different and I will pursue both over this easter period, hopefully creating a body of work for each to present after easter.
