Internship with Puck Collective

This weekend I traveled down to London for an internship with Puck Collective. It took place in Boxpark in Shoreditch which I discovered was a ‘pop up mall’ where the collective displayed prints and various other illustrated items for sale.

This was an insightful opportunity for me to see first hand an aspect of free lancing as well as talking to people from the collective and finding out more about how they work.

It was also interesting talking to the other interns and seeing how they come across internships and opportunities, as well as discussing our degrees, the different stages we’re at and the different experiences we had.

It was interesting to see how the work in the pop up shop was all very different and all had their unique aspects, yet hung together in the shop they fitted well together. There was a relaxed pace in the the shop throughout the day and as interns we underwent simple tasks such as carrying out payments, wrapping and packaging prints and helping customers with what they needed and answering questions.

The work was mainly print focused from what I saw but there were also collages, mixed media, pen work and some painted work from what I could see. I found the prints particularly interesting as I personally don’t use printing techniques much in my work. One of my aims for my upcoming final year at uni is to experiment with as many different types of printing as possible before I leave while I get the chance!

To sum it up, this was a really enjoyable and beneficial experience for me and I would love to do anything like this again in the future. It was great to undergo an internship solely illustration based also and I learnt a lot of things ranging from pricing to self promotion to dissertations through talking to the people there! Perhaps being part of a collective is something I can look at once graduating. It certainly seems like a nice way of working through supporting other artists and getting to see a variety of work. Overall I met some great people, found out a lot of useful things and even got to know London a little!
