Boston Book Festival 2021
I had such a fantastic day at my first ever book festival – Boston Book Festival 2021!
Boston Book Festival is a brand new Book Festival in Boston Lincolnshire and it ran from the 17th to 19th September 2021.
During the Friday I spent the full day running ‘Nipper and the Lunchbox’ themed story workshops at Blackfriars Arts Centre with three local primary schools. Firstly I started each session with an introductory presentation and then kicked things off by reading the book. With me I bought my little crochet Nipper with me which was made for me by Peacheecrafts which went down very well.
As the ages of the children ranged from reception to year six, I bought activity sheets suitable for all ages. Younger children really enjoyed the Nipper ‘dot to dots’ and symmetry drawings. It surprised me to learn that a lot of children had never heard of a ‘dot to dot’ before! I must be getting old! You can download the activity sheets I used here.
Then, for older children I designed a story map where they could write a sequel write their own story. As a result we had some amazing sequels including Nipper becoming a professional footballer! Finally, the children presented their stories at the end of the sessions and it was great fun listening to them all.
I met some very talented young writers and artists from St Thomas’ CE Primary Academy, Boston Pioneers Academy and Fishtoft Primary School!
Finally, on Sunday I joined other authors and illustrators at Boston Guildhall. where I sold lots of illustrated goods!
